To Grieve over Death is not a Sign of Wisdom
From:
Sri Sathya Sai
Mother, the news that your husband attained merger with the Divine came to you all of a sudden. It is but natural that you were shocked at the accident which killed him and feel miserably alone and deserted.
The daughters of Mother India revere their husbands as their all. They are every moment concerned with their mates’ physical health, their financial stability, their honour and reputation in society and their peace of mind. Yet one should not forget that body is a composite of diverse elements. It has to disintegrate into those elements, whoever might claim to own it or however one might guard it. It is a feeble contraption liable to be easily put out of action. A slip, a fall, a hit, a sneeze, a little carelessness or a moment of recklessness on one’s part or on the part of others is enough to damage or destroy it.
No one can avoid death, even if one manages to lengthen one’s life by avoiding all these. Even Avatars take birth resolving to die some day. When birth occurs, death has to follow. To grieve over death, which is an inevitable and inescapable consequence of birth, is not the sign of Wisdom.
Baba.
