Bhagawan’s Mission

Sri Sathya Sai

To the Devoted,

Dear one! I received the letter you wrote and sent with echoes of overflowing waves of devotion and surging waters of love. It is impossible for mortals to fathom and understand the hearts and the ways of Jnanis, Yogis, Ascetics, Sages and the like. Varied are the ways of the world and the hearts of men. So, they talk as they please, and act as they like. But if only we safeguard our determination, our right conduct and our wisdom, whatever people say would not touch us. After all, it is a tree laden with fruits alone, that is hit with stones. It is but natural for the good and the bad to coexist in this world. If it is not so, it ceases to be the world. It is only people who are steeped in ignorance and are blinded under the influence of lust, anger, delusion and jealousy that would write whatever pleases them. But, the wise would never talk in that strain. We should not also give too much importance to their utterances.

To protect and grant Ananda (Bliss) to mankind is My commitment.

To rescue and reclaim all those who go astray from the right path is My vow.

To redress the sufferings of the poor and the needy is my definition of love.

To save all those who worship Me with austerity and devotion is My pride.

To Me, devotion means the equanimity with which people welcome both their sorrows and joys.

When I am known as one who would never forget and forsake His devotees and who would harbor no ill towards anyone, how could the name of such a person be tarnished in the world?

I will not give up My mission and My determination. This is my chief task. To Me-popularity, Name and Fame or Honour and Dishonour are the same. I have nothing to do with anyone of them. It is only for the sake of the world and for making my advent known to the people, I go around and talk. Otherwise, I have no concern with them also.

I have neither a place nor a name of My own. I have neither ‘Mine’ nor ‘Thine’. I answer to every name given to Me and go wherever I am taken. This is my first vow. I announced this only today but did not disclose this to anyone before. For me, this world is something far away. I suffer all these trials and tribulations only for the sake of mankind.

No one can comprehend My power however long they try, whoever they are, and whatever they adopt.

You yourself would witness My glory in future. To our devotees, patience is essential. If they have it, everything is achieved. I wrote these words as otherwise you would be pained if I did not respond to your letter.

I have no doubts or reservations regarding you. Though I keep myself aloof from the world, I always think of its welfare in My mind.

That is all.

Your Baba

As devotees come one after another in quick succession, I communicated this on paper in writing.
